Stevia is a non-caloric natural sweetener that is over 200 times sweeter than sugar. It is “0” on the glycemic index, while sugar is “100”. It has been used by the Guarani Indians of Paraguay and Brazil for over a hundred years. It is now being grown in many countries.
Some of the primary applications of Stevia are:
abrasions, bleeding gums, blood pressure, blood sugar balance, burns, carbohydrate cravings, cuts, dental and oral health, diabetes, energy, hair care, hypoglycemia, indigestion, indigestion, skin care, sore throat, yeast infection.
Stevia can be used in cooking and baking such guilt-free desserts as cakes, cookies, brownies, muffins and pies. It makes wonderful frozen desserts and candies. I have made fresh strawberry ice cream with Stevia and it was excellent! See my Raspberry Sherbet recipe (with Stevia) below.
