September Minutes for Baker Food Co-op

September 16, 2013 Directors Meeting

The September meeting of the Baker Food Co-op Board of Directors was held at the Baker Food Co-op Monday, September 16 at 6 pm. A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order by President, Valerie Tachenko. Board Members present were Valerie Tachenko, Jewel Pilcher, Linda Cyr, Fran Hart, Joanna Driscol and Susie Busch. Carol Morrison, Arnie Skeels, Teresa Walker and Jana Simpson were also present.

REPORTS:

-The August Board minutes were reviewed. MSUC (Jewel, Joanna) the minutes be approved as read. All
minutes are on file at the Co-op.

-The Treasurer’s report was distributed and reviewed. MSUC (Susie, Jewel) the report be accepted. All Treasurers’ reports are on file at the Co-op.

-Update on buying Broadway building:

–The Co-op is waiting for Elkhorn Title to obtain a clear title to the property. The legal work cannot be completed until a clear title is processed. The Board will keep the Member Owners informed as soon as this issue is resolved.

Manager’s Report:

*The refrigeration units are designed to operate with low humidity, and the swamp coolers do not keep the humidity at a low level. Consequently, the refrigerators and freezers periodically stop running. As the weather cools this problem should be lessened. The Board will need to address the outdated wiring and the refrigeration when the building is owned by the Co-op.

Working Member Coordinator Report:

*Welcome to Jana Simpson who is the newly hired Working Member Coordinator.
*Working Member of the Month is Jan Denlinger, Cashier
*Department Head of the Month is Deanna Bowman-Pennock, E-mail Newsletter.
*Special recognition of working members who worked more than 10 hours/month.

o Report on positions filled and positions that need to be filled: 90 working members in August.

o POS (Point of Sale) Administrator Report:

*Arnie is working on the new COPOS upgrade, and he reviewed the upgrade with the Board.

Cashier Trainer Report:

*Teresa thanked Carol and Vera for helping to train cashiers in August.

The fundraising “Buy a Brick” campaign will be started after the Co-op completes the purchase of the building. Last month the Board decided to advertise the campaign for 90 days. All bricks will be incorporated and displayed in the remodeled store. Because the brick price has increased, the bricks will now be sold for $70.

The Co-op will purchase a brick in memory of Nadine Titus to recognize Nadine’s many years of dedicated service to the Co-op.

A committee will be formed to write the Policy and Procedures for the voting by ballot Bylaw change. The Policy and Procedures will be submitted to the Board of Directors for approval.

Treasurer, Linda Cyr announced that the long awaited Tax Return Refunds have arrived.
